It had been a very nice run for The Dark Knight Rises, but it was bound to end. The third and final installment in the Dark Knight series has already garnered over $390 million and dropped to third place for the weekend. This weekend, however, at the box office was dominated by a movie in the Bourne series. This one stars Jeremy Renner as a top secret agent for whom the government has suddenly turned against and has to fight for his life.
The Bourne Legacy won the weekend box office by earning $40.3 million. The movie did not get very good reviews from critics, but audiences seem to be willing to forgive that and see anything related to the popular Bourne films. This movie, unlike the prior three to carry the Bourne name, does not star Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. This one stars Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross who has had certain chromosomes changed to make him faster and stronger and his pursuit of the drugs that will let him remain that way.
Coming in second place was the comedy starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis called The Campaign. It’s an adult comedy with an R rating about a political campaign for a GOP senate seat earned a higher-than-expected $27.4 million. Most movie insiders felt that the movie would earn somewhere around $20 million.
In third place was The Dark Knight Rises. The movie continues to rack up impressive numbers, although a bit slower than the movie that preceded it: The Dark Knight. For this weekend the movie earned $19.5 million. (Source)
